THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PCR AND RAPID TEST COVID-19

Rapid tests detect virus-resistant antibodies in the blood. For this reason, a sample is needed by taking blood. The results of this test can be obtained in just 15-30 minutes. If the results are positive, a PCR test is needed for confirmation. Place to perform this rapid test are commonly first-level health facilities or hospitals. The average cost required to do this test is under Rp. 500,000. All Fullerton Health Indonesia’s clinics provide this Rapid Diagnostic Test.

Unlike the above, PCR tests detect viral genetic material through RNA. The required sample is fluid from the nasal cavity or throat. PCR test results are obtained longer, usually within 24-48 hours after the analysis is carried out, and can be used as confirmation of positive results. The health facilities conducting this test are level-2 biosafety laboratories. Costs required for PCR tests are higher, around Rp. 1,000,000 – 2,500,000.
